When the Boat Comes In: The Complete Collection contains all four series of this much loved classic BBC drama set in the 1920s and 1930s. Disillusioned by his wartime experiences in France, First World War veteran, Jack Ford (James Bolam) returns home to Gallowshields on Tyneside in search of a job any job. Unfortunately, with Britain in the grip of recession, there is no work to be had. Aligning himself with the equally impoverished Seaton family, Jack sets about improving his fortunes and along the way falls deeply in love with Jessie Seaton (Susan Jameson). Originally broadcast between 1976 and 1981, the series is also memorable for its theme music, an adaptation of the traditional When the Boat Comes In tune.
